Friends Of Castleford Library
Welcome to Friends Of Castleford Library (FOCAL) web site. We are a group of friendly people who are so passionate about our local library that we befriended it.
FOCAL was established in February 1998. A group of local people who use the library decided that such a valuable asset deserved to be promoted and supported.
FOCAL aims:-
- Promote and raise the profile of Castleford Library
- Organise activities and events of local and community interest
- Attract new members and encourage all sections of the community to be represented
The new museum and library building (The Castleford Forum) opened On 9th December, 2013.
FOCAL members meet to discuss matters that affect the library. We hold meetings every two months at the library, Thursday at 1pm. New members are always welcome, to get involved e-mail to contact.us.focal@gmail.com or download a membership form.
Local and Family History meetings
First Monday of the month 2.00-3.30pm; Castleford Library.
Book: Castleford Free Library 1905-2005
FOCAL have produced a book, Castleford Free Library 1905-2005. Researched and written by members Pat Bentley and Margaret Lound, it tells the history of the library. A fascinating read and a must-purchase. It is available for sale in Castleford library.
Laptop and projector
Stephen Gill of the Masonic Iuventutis Lodge hands over a cheque for £900 to FOCAL from the West Riding Masonic Charities Ltd PGM's fund to purchase a laptop and projector for the library which will be used and enjoyed by the community.
